Avengers: Infinity War’s social media buzz last week was boosted by the release of the film’s first trailer . This helped the movie top the rankings with nearly 500,000 new conversations. Marvel Studios dropped the much-awaited trailer on on Nov. 29 during ABC’s Good Morning America, shortly after, the clip was made available online, furthering its reach beyond those who were able to catch it on live TV.

The trailer has been a long time coming. Since Marvel debuted an event-exclusive sizzle reel of the movie back in summer at D23 Expo and San Diego Comic-Con, there was a very passionate campaign urging for the company to release the same footage online. However, the film studio took its time and didn’t succumb to fan pressure, only fueling people’s interest in the movie and its trailer. So when directors Joe and Anthony Russo started counting down to its release, everyone was already more than prepared for what’s about to drop.

In a new article by Variety citing media-measurement firm comScore and its PreAct service’s findings, Marvel’s upcoming event film emerged as the most-talked about topic last week, topping Star Wars: The Last Jedi , which came in second with 208,000 new conversations. In the far third is Maze Runner:
The Death Cure garnering 82,000 new conversations after Fox dropped the
threequel’s poster, followed by the awards season darling, The Disaster Artist producing 76,000 new conversations last week ahead of its December 1 limited release. Rounding up the top 5 places is Fox’s brand new dramedy Love, Simon starring Nick Robinson with 59,000 new conversations, also drawing more interest thanks to the release of its first trailer.

This new accolade does not really come as a huge surprise as the official trailer was shortly crowned as the most viewed YouTube video in a span of 24 hours, ousting IT with 230 million views compared to the breakout horror film’s 197 million. If anything, this just further exhibits the kind of traction that the Marvel film is getting even months before its official debut. And it does really make sense that people are interested given that the movie is promised to be the culmination of everything that has transpired in the MCU since its inception almost 10 years ago with Iron Man .

With the Avengers: Infinity War trailer finally out and as Star Wars: The Last Jedi slowly inches near, we expect that the Rian Johnson-directed flick will attract more and more attention, especially when the cast has already been going around for press tours, eventually taking over the rankings. In any case, the competition between the two is perceived as nothing but a friendly contest as both properties belong under the same massive Disney umbrella.
