Patty Jenkins is excited about the diverse roster of filmmakers now working for the DC Extended Universe. Following her successful venture in launching Gal Gadot as the titular role in Wonder Woman, the director has become one of the most important parts of the DCEU. Via the project, she is now the highest-grossing single female director to helm a live-action film and most importantly her work has rejuvenated people’s excitement over Warner Bros.’ superhero franchise after a slew of divisive movies.

Outside of the Wonder Woman franchise, DCEU has plenty more films on the docket. In less than two months, Justice League is set to hit theaters, followed by Aquaman in December 2018 (the only film slated from the DCEU that year) which is set to wrap principal photography in Australia sometime this month. Shazam!, which is already in pre-production, will then follow suit in 2019. On top of those, several other properties are in different stages of production, including the much-anticipated Wonder Woman 2. Seeing all of these, Jenkins could not help but be thrilled with the upcoming numerous projects from very different filmmakers.

Speaking to the Toronto Sun, Jenkins expressed her excitement and enthusiasm to see what her fellow DCEU filmmakers do with the properties they are working with and how they will craft their own big screen iterations of these iconic characters who have been living in comic books for decades.

“There are a lot of great filmmakers around the DC universe and there are a lot of great characters. My favourite thing about the DC universe is some of these characters have been the greatest, most original superheroes for decades. I think there’s just exciting things to be done with them ahead and lots of different people that I’m excited about seeing.

All of us are very different and we’re all going to do different things. So I can’t wait to see the variety, personally.”

Filmmaker Chris McKay recently opened up about joining the WB/DCEU banner championing the film studio’s efforts to create director-driven projects. McKay who specializes in animated films like The LEGO Batman Movie has been tapped to helm the Nightwing solo film. Other directors from other genre backgrounds include Aquaman‘s James Wan, who is known for his horror projects like Insidious, The Conjuring franchise, and Saw. Meanwhile, Shazam!’s David Sandberg is also known for supernatural/horror films like Lights Out and Annabelle: Creation.

Jenkins is officially set to return to direct Wonder Woman 2 which will make her the highest-paid female director of all time. The filmmaker will also share writing responsibilities with Dave Callaham and DC Entertainment president Geoff Johns for the sequel already slated for a December 2019 release date. Cyborg and Green Lantern Corps which are both set for 2020 will follow thereafter, while projects like Suicide Squad 2, Justice League Dark, Flashpoint and Batgirl are all still waiting for release date announcements.
